In December 2021, a tornado hit Bowling Green, Kentucky. Many trees were destroyed, devastating the urban forest canopy. ReTree BG was founded in response to this devastating loss, in order to rebuild the lost canopy of our city. Now, we continue our mission by providing education and free saplings to anyone home or business owners who share our vision for a community with more beautiful trees.

We believe trees are a beautiful way for communities to live more in tune with their natural environment. They provide shade, fresh air, animal habitats, distinctiveness, and of course beauty to the places we live and work. It takes decades to build a thriving canopy that benefits us all. When a natural disaster like the 2021 tornado tears away much of that canopy, it is all of our responsibility to restore the community's natural beauty for our futures and that of our children. Even those not directly effected by natural disasters can help revitalize and protect our forestry by planting and nurturing trees.

Every Spring and Fall, we have a tree giveaway, where we give saplings to people to plant on their property. Residents can sign up for a consultation, then some of our members will come to your property to evaluate if a tree would thrive there, what kind, and how much more tree cover is needed in the area. If everything looks good, then you will be registered to recieve a sapling at our next giveaway in the Spring or Fall. Pick up the sapling, take it home, plant it, and watch your neighborhood improve!

Yes! If you own a property, and the landscape is suitable for a tree, you can get a free sapling and plant it. It is easier than you think. Our experts will give you all the information you need to make sure your new sapling grows into a healthy tree. In some cases, we may be able to provide further assistance with planting the tree, if you are unable.

ReTree BG is focused on building the forest canopy within the city limits of Bowling Green, at this time. But we are always looking for willing partners to expand our mission as resources allow.

We are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, so we can accept tax-deductible donations to support our mission.

We also always welcome new members to contribute in any capacity they can to our mission. There are many ways our members contribute, from doing site consultations, volunteering at the giveaways, assisting with tree planting, preparing educational materials, and more.
